数式の累乗を英語で

数式の累乗を英語で記すとどうなるか調べてみました．いくつかのページ[1]，[2]，[3]を見ましたが，いろいろな書き方があるみたいですね．数式を「x^n = y」とした場合の例を以下に記しておきます．ちなみにそこに登場する「power」という英単語は，「累乗」を意味します．

• n = 0 の場合
  1. x to the power of 0 is y.
  2. x to the power 0 is y.
  3. x to the zero power is y.
  4. x to the zero is y.
  5. The zero power of x is y.
• n = 1 の場合
  1. x to the power of 1 is y.
  2. x to the power 1 is y.
  3. x to the first power is y.
  4. x to the first is y. (?)
  5. The first power of x is y.
• n = 2 の場合
  1. x to the power of 2 is y.
  2. x to the power 2 is y.
  3. x to the second power is y.
  4. x to the second is y. (?)
  5. The second power of x is y.
  6. x squared is 64.
  7. The square of x is y.
• n = 3 の場合
  1. x to the power of 3 is y.
  2. x to the power 3 is y.
  3. x to the third power is y.
  4. x to the third is y. (?)
  5. The third power of x is y.
  6. x cubed is 64.
  7. The cube of x is y.
• n >= 4 の場合
  1. x to the power of n is y.
  2. x to the power n is y.
  3. x to the n-th power is y.
  4. x to the n-th is y.
